Your First Visit and Treatment Plan
Getting Started at Intown Acupuncture Center
Your course of treatment begins with a 90-minute initial visit. This extended visit allows your practitioner time to learn the details about the specific reasons you have come for treatment, and to obtain an overall health history.
She will also perform a physical exam using techniques that provide information valuable in the context of creating effective acupuncture treatments. Only with this complete information can a skillful acupuncturist develop a context in which your current state of health make sense, and design individualized treatments to allow your health status to improve.
Your Treatment Plan
An important part of this initial appointment also involves your practitioner sharing her findings with you and making recommendations for a treatment plan. An acupuncture treatment is generally conducted during this initial visit.
Follow-up treatments are scheduled at intervals that are right for you. It is common to initiate a course of treatment with a series of four visits about a week apart. These subsequent visits last approximately 50 minutes, although we suggest you allow yourself a full hour at the Center. You may find that you enjoy resting a few extra minutes before returning to your day. Our schedule is designed to allow this time for you.
Many times people come for treatment with concerns that have taken months or years to develop. As a result, those specific symptoms may not disappear within a few treatments.
Often the first signs that treatment is being effective show in positive changes in appetite, digestion, sleep, overall energy level and mood. Changes in the presenting complaint may come more slowly.
